The camp was covered in snow this morning - it was peaceful and serene. I walked around taking some pictures with Vince's camera as they stayed tucked in their tent.
NIVES & VINCE AT BARAFU CAMP AFTER THE SUMMIT
I saw Libby and Francis in their tent and took them some Aleve and Deep Heat for their aches and pains. They were so grateful and Francis asked me if I was sure that I had enough, knowing the trouble I was having with my knee....."of course", I said....."I'm a mama". They thought this was pretty hilarious and I could hear them laughing well after I left for the mess tent...........still, as guides and our emergency response gurus, I wonder why they don't have their own medications for such things.
We left camp shortly after breakfast and after hearing Francis' signal "Gittin' Reddy"........the descent today was steep and rocky.
COMING DOWN - LIBBY IN THE FOREGROUND
I know that I missed some incredible scenery because my head was downward posed the entire time. My right knee began to twinge after the first hour and by the time we arrived to camp four hours later, I could barely walk. Took Aleve and Nives lent me her elastic knee brace for tomorrow. Along the way, Francis pointed out an emergency vehicle - I figured if the knee got real bad, I may just have to use it! He and Nives demonstrated how it works.
KILIMANJARO AMBULANCE!
As we continued our descent, the scree and rocks gradually gave way to more and more greenery. We stopped at high camp for a well deserved rest
ENJOYING A SNACK AND "FOOT AIRING"
LOOKING BACK
HIGH CAMP
We arrived at camp early - I'm loving camp life and am very comfortable in my little tent. There is always a lot of activity going on, good food at mealtime and at the end of every day the satisfactory feeling of a hard days work. I had a nap and rested my leg. We had a great dinner of fried chicken, chips and veggies. Everyone is pretty tired out and packed it in around 9:00.
Tomorrow we will be back at Bristol Cottages!
